What is a statement-of-intent?
For us, this is an informal declaration that indicates what a person is likely to do in the near future. In our case, how will we behave, interact, and participate in the workshops with each other.
For this challenge participants merged their intentions with typography to create a bold statement of what they wanted and expected of themselves over the next six weeks.
What is Typography?
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed.
We discussed intention and purpose in our session and what Intention means to us. It can mean we are determined to do (something) or showing earnest and eager attention. As a group working together we knew there would be a lot going on over the course of the online sessions, and that sometimes we would be trying to complete something that was new and strange, and that we’d need to make sure we keep focused and excited about what we are doing.
So, to start off on the right foot we merged this self-affirming action into a creative activity of creating our chosen word/statement of intent into more than plain text. A visual reminder of the power behind that word/statement. Playing off the fun and quirky challenge in the first taster participants would have to think of letters and words differently and create the word to match yourself
Typography can be very powerful if used correctly just like words and writing can create impact through the way they are spoken and arranged.
Here is some work below.
